Satisfactory 005: Anything but basic

The trap of revisiting and optimizing old production lines vs advancing to newer parts.

These last two weeks I have been planning my Just the Basics factory, finding a suitable location and preparing it for a factory. I have found a spot I am happy with, and added another road through. The roads are super helpful for framing buildings and giving me some boundaries to work within.

I got some inspiration for the build from the trees poking through the foundations near the road. I was about to clear them out but then had a thought of using them as decoration. So I built up planter boxes around where they came up, and set the building back from the road quite a bit. I intend to keep building higher. I might end up enclosing the whole area and adding lights and all that. Depends on what else I want to build in this area.

I have decided that this is a worthwhile endeavour due to my transportation overhaul. I have two more sets of parts left to revisit after I complete this factory, and it is for quartz and SAM. I am combining them into one building and calling it Purple Stuff. Before I get to that I will have to do some work on my power grid. I need more generation. Plus I want to revamp my HUB area now that I am building bigger and better. I will likely be bouncing around between these next few projects.

I have some factories to decommission, I don’t think I will demolish the buildings though unless I want to use the space.

I also am building road tunnels through the factories which I think will be introduce a building challenge but it is something to work around and gives my buildings more character.

My first photo was photobombed by a passing truck. I put it second in the gallery.

I think my next update will be showing off the storage area once I build the factory’s production lines. It might be a while before my next update. I have many other things on the go as well, some of which I will be writing about on my blog.
